Quorn care home shortlisted for two national awards

Home news

A care home in Quorn is celebrating after being named a finalist twice in the Care Home Awards 2022.

Care UK’s Lonsdale Mews, on Farley Way, has been shortlisted in the ‘Best New Care Home’ and ‘Outstanding Care Provider in a Group’ categories, both of which recognise outstanding levels of care.

The Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation in UK care home management, operation and delivery. The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony in July.

Lonsdale Mews care home, which opened its doors in late 2020, impressed the judges with its resident-centred approach to care, with team members applying this core principle to every aspect of life at the home. This includes the extensive activities programme, led by a dedicated lifestyle team – from large, monthly themed events, including a casino night and a seaside garden party, to one-on-one time. There are also several groups residents can join, including gardening and art clubs – with Phoebe the Dachshund, the home’s adorable Head of Happiness, always on hand to fuss with.

The quality and diversity of the food on offer is also an area highlighted in the nominations. Residents play an active part in shaping the menus and can choose their evening meal from a variety of options every day. The home’s head chef also regularly hosts pop-up restaurants, taking residents on a culinary journey around the world – including to India and Italy.

A relative commented: “Mum has really enjoyed herself - she took part in numerous activities and having sung in choirs for most of her life the carol practice was a real highlight for her. Mum has made friends and enjoyed the first trip out in the new Lonsdale minibus.”

The home also made the most out of technology, especially throughout the pandemic, using Zoom to ensure residents could stay in touch with their loved ones as possible as well as the Relish activity app, enabling relatives to keep up to date with all activities at the home.

Home Manager at Lonsdale Mews, Toby Sturgess, said: “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted in two categories at this year’s Care Home Awards.

“Opening our doors in the middle of the pandemic definitely came with its challenges, but I couldn’t be prouder of how hard the team worked to create such a warm and wonderful environment for residents. From our activities programmes and menus to the outstanding levels of care our team delivers daily, everything here at Lonsdale Mews is designed to ensure residents live fulfilling lives, and I believe those two nominations are a true testament to that.

“We’re looking forward to the award ceremony – and will keep our fingers crossed we come out as the winners.”

Lonsdale Mews offers full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite. The home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
