Local care ho-ho-home brings festive cheer to Edinburgh

Home news

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at an Edinburgh care home, with the local community invited to celebrate the festive season at its Christmas fete.

On Saturday 10th December, from 2pm-4pm, the team at Care UK’s Cairdean House, on Redford Road, will open the doors to the home and bring festive cheer to the town.

The home will be decked in all things Christmas, and there will be traditional Highland dancers, from Mhairi Hogg School of Dancing, performing throughout the afternoon. Young visitors will also have the opportunity to get up close and pet sheep.

Visitors will be able to do some Christmas shopping at a number of stalls, with residents’ handmade crafts on offer, and treat themselves to mulled wine and mince pies. There will also be a raffle and tombola for guests to try their luck at winning some early Christmas presents. Residents, Peter and Betsy Record, also known as ‘Mr and Mrs Clause’, will be sliding down the chimney to get everyone in the festive spirit – with an opportunity to visit the pair in their grotto.

Gillian Goodall, Home Manager at Cairdean House, said: “The local community is a huge part of life here at Cairdean House and the relationships we have are extremely important to us, so our Christmas fete is a great way to say thank you for their support in recent years and spread some festive cheer.

“As well as providing a great chance for some seasonal fun, our Christmas fete also gives us an opportunity to prompt happy memories of Christmas for residents, which is especially important for those living with dementia. Reminiscence activities like this are perfect for getting conversations going and sharing memories, so it’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get into the Christmas spirit.

“The day is set to be enjoyable for all ages, so we’re looking forward to welcoming local people to the home for what promises to be an exciting day of festive celebrations.”

Cairdean House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short-term respite.
