Meet our friendly care team

Whether they’re part of the management, care, clinical or support teams, the people who work at Francis Court are all focused on one thing: making each day the best it can be for residents. They love what they do and they support each other to deliver superb care and meaningful experiences to the people we care for.

Gary Nash
Deputy Manager

I started out as a Senior Carer and have worked my way up the ladder.

I joined Care UK in 2018 because I was keen to develop my skills in a forward-thinking organisation that’s committed to delivering superb care, and which supports its colleagues to progress.

What makes this job for me is spending time with residents and seeing them happy and enjoying life. When residents are enjoying the activities there’s a real buzz about the place.

I’m extremely proud to be Deputy Manager at Francis Court and to be working with the great home team here. I’m looking forward to working with the team as we come out of the pandemic and look ahead to brighter times and new possibilities, and working hard to gain an ‘outstanding’ rating from the CQC!

Beverly Jordan
Customer Relations Manager

I spent 26 years selling beds, gloves and consumables to care homes.

I joined Skylark House because it felt like it was time to come and work in a care home! I then since have also taken on Francis Court and am really enjoying it. My role involves welcoming potential new residents and their families into the home and showing them the difference we can make to their lives.
I love the variety of this job: going from doing a show-round to organising the paperwork for a new resident’s admission, and then having a chat and a giggle with some of the residents. How many jobs enable you to do that?!
One of the best things about my job is seeing a new resident settling in and enjoying life. Particularly if they’ve had a stay in hospital, being in lovely, calm surroundings and enjoying personalised care, activities and tasty food makes all the difference to them.

Andy Marshall
Head Chef

I’ve worked in a wide variety of places in the 35 years that I’ve been a chef, from 5-star hotels to corporate canteens – and I’ve even cooked for Her Majesty the Queen.

However, the chance to work for Care UK was too good to pass up because the organisation is known for the way it puts residents and colleagues first.

I feel that it’s a privilege to work at Francis Court. This is our residents’ home, so I take pride in being as flexible as possible about the food we produce. It’s always a challenge to create a menu that caters to everyone’s tastes, so taking an individual approach, and making every meal a bit different, is the key.

Residents are very appreciative of what my team and I are doing, and there’s nothing better than seeing empty plates after a meal. It shows we’re doing things right! I’m looking forward to continuing to learn about residents’ tastes and preferences and making the food and dining experience at Francis Court friendly and fulfilling.

Jo York
Head Receptionist

I’ve lived in Copthorne for nearly four decades, and I’d never considered working in a care home.

But, one day, back in 2013, I came along to donate some jigsaws, and I left with a job offer! I haven’t looked back, and I look forward to each day at Francis Court. No two days are the same, which is why I enjoy what I do.

I think it’s important to be a good listener in this role, and to have empathy with the people who you interact with. A smile goes a long way too. I love to sing and the team here has given me the confidence to entertain the residents by singing to them. Music and singing are my passions, but I also love gardening, walking, cooking and socialising with family and friends.

I’m looking forward to doing my best, learning more about myself and delivering the best service to visitors, relatives, residents and colleagues.

Chris Smith
Maintenance

I joined Care UK having run my own plastering business.

I generally start early so I can get a lot done before I’m in the residents’ way! I really enjoy helping residents to make their rooms homely by putting up pictures and doing whatever they ask so that their rooms look nice. I even love doing DIY jobs at home – I get bored if I’m sitting down for very long!
