Communities invited to celebrate Care Home Open Day

Company news

Care UK homes across the country have been busy planning their celebrations to mark this year’s Care Home Open Day on 19 June.

The annual event sees thousands of care homes open their doors to the general public to showcase what quality homes are really about.

People can visit to find out what daily life is like in a care home and to learn more about the excellent work of the teams who support residents to enjoy more independent and fulfilling lives. The event is also a great opportunity to have some fun, with Care UK homes pulling out all the stops for 2015 and getting creative to encourage their local communities along.

Care Home Open Day is officially on Friday but some homes have decided to open their doors on the weekend of Saturday 20 or Sunday 21 June to hold fetes, tea parties, themed days or to combine it with the official opening of new suites.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s happening.

Friday 19 June

If you’re near Sandfields in Cheltenham go along for a ‘Taste of the Caribbean’ themed day. Music will be provided by a steel drum band and visitors are welcome to get active with some chair Zumba before enjoying Caribbean-themed food and drinks.

Over in Mildenhall, Suffolk, Mildenhall Lodge and the Mildenhall Club will be adopting a summer time theme. Visitors can try their hand at flower arranging, glass painting and planting hanging baskets while enjoying music from a local band. There’ll also be a delicious barbecue lunch to enjoy.

In Worcester, to celebrate Perry Manor’s first birthday, there’ll be a ‘picnic in the garden’ themed party, with many activities for all to enjoy, including live music, boules and table-top board games. Enjoy a glass of Pimm’s, celebration cake and canapés in the café at 2.45pm. There’s also the chance to meet members of the team and to take a tour of the home.

Saturday 20 June

Francis Court in Copthorne, West Sussex is holding a Wild West Day. Visitors can have a go at line dancing or sit back and enjoy Wild West themed music from Louise Trinick. Say hello to some VIPs (Very Important Ponies), who’ll also be putting in an appearance in fancy costumes.

As well as hosting a summer fete on 20 June, with competitions, stalls and afternoon tea, Wellmeadow Lodge in Newton Mearns, Glasgow will be officially opening its new Dunkeld suite, which has been created to provide round-the-clock nursing care.

Ventress Hall in Darlington, County Durham will also be opening a new suite; welcoming the local community along to see the changes and to join in the celebrations at the home with a traditional tea party.

Like Perry Manor the day before, Priors House is holding a summer garden party to celebrate the first anniversary of the home. There’ll be stalls with handmade goods and crafts, refreshments and children’s games throughout the afternoon, with Spa Strummers Ukulele Group providing music.
