Day clubs

Our day clubs can make all the difference to you and your loved one’s wellbeing

Do you care for a friend or family member in their own home? Would you both enjoy a change of scene now and again? A Care UK day care centre could be the answer for both of you, giving your loved one the chance to meet people just like them and take part in varied, fun activities while you enjoy some time to yourself.

Support near you, when you need it

Care UK runs a range of day care centres around the UK where older people, including those who are living with dementia, can make friends and keep busy while their family carers have a break.

These clubs are run by dedicated and experienced care teams, giving you the peace of mind that your loved one is in safe hands while they’re with us.

Members of these day care centres are welcome to come along for a couple of hours up to a full day or several days a week. We’re here to make life as easy as we can for you, so although we have set opening hours, we can often provide care outside these times too.

Remember that all our care homes also offer short term respite care. So if you’re looking to have a longer break, perhaps for a family holiday, we can provide round-the-clock care for your loved one in comfortable and homely surroundings.

What can you expect?

Keeping busy is the secret to staying independent and positive as we get older, so we support members to play an active part in their club’s daily goings-on, from helping out in the garden to planning outings, or baking sweet treats for everyone to enjoy.

Although our teams plan daily activities around members’ hobbies, abilities and interests, they ‘go with the flow’. So if members decide they want to do something on the spur of the moment, we’ll make it happen.

Typical activities include:

  • Gardening
  • Quizzes and sing-alongs
  • Arts and crafts
  • Baking
  • Gentle exercise
  • Reminiscence, and stimulating and cognitive activities suitable for people living with dementia

Enhancing independence

Health and wellbeing professionals, from hairdressers to chiropodists, regularly visit our day clubs, and many have facilities like kitchens and laundry rooms that members can use if they wish. Some also have bathrooms with specialist equipment, so an experienced member of our team can give your loved one a bath if you’re finding this difficult to do yourself at home.

Added to that, each of our Suffolk day clubs is adjacent to a brand new Care UK care home, with its own cafe, cinema and hair and beauty salon, and club members are welcome to use these luxurious facilities (the hair salon is only a small charge).

Members of the Cedrus Club day care centre love celebrating annual events in style. Members made their favourite sandwiches to take home for National Sandwich Week and crafted a flower mural during the week of Chelsea Flower Show. And when they’re not getting their hands dirty in the garden they’re hosting their own events.

Every day at the Davers Club day care centre starts with a group coffee morning when our team and club members get together to share what they’ve been up to. Then club members are welcome to do what they fancy, playing Scrabble, having a sing-song or helping in the garden. Themed activities around annual events and days are always popular too, and a lovely chance to reminisce.

Our day care centre members enjoy getting together for activities: bingo, gardening, music and competitive games are popular. Many members of the Prince George Club are living with dementia, so we chat about their early lives. But we also like to enjoy the here and now, with outings and visits from entertainers and local school groups.
