Every year, around the world, thousands of people get involved in events and publicity to celebrate women’s achievements on International Women’s Day.
The theme this year is Balance for Better– seeking to forge a more gender-balanced world, celebrate women's achievements and raise awareness against bias.
As our contribution to this year’s International Women’s Day, we thought we would do something to help us all to recognise the wealth of expertise and knowledge stored in the minds of older ladies and acknowledge and celebrate the changes they have seen in women’s issues throughout their lifetime.
We invited 12 ladies in their 80s and 90s living in our care homes to tell us what advice they would have given to their younger selves. We think their views are funny, feisty and thought provoking in equal measure and we hope you will take a look at what they had to say.
We’re proud to have created a platform for older women to share their most valuable life lessons and we urge other individuals and organisations to follow our lead on their own Twitter and Facebook pages.
“Make sure you know what you want to do, and be determined to do it”
“Always to be truthful, and most of all, always be kind and understanding.”
“Live every moment and take each day as it comes, because nobody knows how long we’ve got do we?”
International Women’s Day is a global day which has been marked since 1911, and celebrates women’s achievements while calling for a more gender-balanced world.
